The Alexandrian Gnostic Church

From the beginning you have been immortal,
and you are children of eternal life.
And you wanted death to be allocated to yourselves
so that you might spend it and use it up,
and that death might die in you and through you.
For when you nullify the world and are not yourselves annihilated,
you are lord over creation and all corruption.

- Valentinus, Fragment F from Clement of Alexandria, Stromateis

Welcome!

The Alexandrian Gnostic Church, also known as the Assembly of the Paraclete or the Église Gnostique, is a  sacramental Christian Gnostic community in the Valentinian tradition, continuing the work of the Église Gnostique founded by Jules Doinel, Tau Valentin II in 1890.

The theology, worship, and practice of the AGC draws from the French Gnostic revival as well as the surviving works of the Valentinian Gnostics and the rich liturgical and contemplative traditions of Eastern Christianity.  Also central to our work is an embrace of a Gnostic Theology of Liberation, a deep commitment to Social Justice and to the Gospel mandate of nonviolence.

The Alexandrian Gnostic Church exists for the purpose of encouraging and equipping spiritual seekers in their quest for liberation by providing sacramental worship, instruction, community, and practice within the framework of a living tradition based on the teachings of the Valentinian school of Christian Gnosticism.

If you’re new to our site, we invite you to check out our About Us page.  If you would like to learn more about our approach to Gnostic Christianity, check out our Gnosticism page.

If you’re not currently a member of our Church, we’d like to take this opportunity to invite you to one of our discussion groups, liturgies or other activities. You will find a welcoming community, sacramental and contemplative spirituality, and a strong commitment to the care of those who are in need.  If you’d like to keep up with news and events, sign up for our newsletter.  And of course, if you’ve got any questions, feel free to contact one of the members of our clergy.
